Claire has always been extremely smart. Before she even got to school she was reading everything and learning anything she could. She remembers everything, in a sort of photographic, encyclopedic nature. When she was at school, the professors said that she was the most intelligent, talented student to attend the school in decades because of her strong natural abilities and powerful intellect. She was of course a Ravenclaw; with more than simple memorization and knowledge, she was a perfect Ravenclaw because of her genuine love for learning, constant curiosity, and vast interest. She is a passionate student, which she will still call herself, because she continues to learn, primarily from her own studies, whether it is learning about magical medical care to examining history. Although she is an Auror, her knowledge is not limited to defense-related information, and neither are her interests.
However, Claire is more than smart. She is bold and confident, always out going and talkative. She can be friendly and laid back, laughing and joking with friends. She is also incredibly mischievous. She spent her years at school as an seemingly angelic student, while she was really pranking and bothering everyone in the school, as many of the students knew. She and Sirius were infamous at school for their antics, which were often clever but ridiculous. Her mischievous spirit has not lessened over the years; now she can be found playing pranks on people in the office, and sometimes beyond, when she is more relaxed and less serious or stressed.
One of her defining characteristics is her loyalty and dedication. She is very, very loyal to her friends and family, as well as to her team of Aurors. Nothing beats her loyalty to Sirius, however, and they are incredibly close. She is also dedicated to her work, always working hard in school to Auror work and now to her extra work with the Order. Additionally, she is very athletic, having played Quidditch for most of her life, both for fun and on a team, and could have gone professional. She now runs every day to stay in shape and because she actually enjoys running. She was very competitive as a player, which would carry on over to school and now to work, although it manifests differently.
She grew up a bit after school, never losing her mischievous and joking side but becoming more professional on the outside. In addition to numerous activities, she achieved her goal of being a successful Auror. She’s very, very, very good at her job, and once completing training at a young age, she began her job and pretty much took it by storm. She has spent the last nineteen or so years getting better and better. Basically, she kicks ass. She’s better than you. Head bitch in charge of the Auror department, even though she isn’t the official head of the department, and she rules with an iron fist. She’s a workaholic and sometimes pretty much lives in the Auror offices. She is a voice of authority in the offices, as well as an extremely well-respected, well-known person outside of the office; she is often an advisor to others in the Ministry and frequently attends meetings that if she were anyone else, she would not be invited to. Furthermore, Claire has only gotten even smarter with time. She has been always highly intelligent and talented, and still reads everything she can get her hands on, as well as increasing and honing her skills. A polymath who has been semi-jokingly but pretty seriously called a genius since she was in school, she has a fierce intellect and seemingly bottomless well of information, as well as an impeccable memory. Her words are often laden with sarcasm and a sharp wit, and she has grown ever more cynical over the years as she has grown up and experienced more. She is also very determined, and always has been.
But for all her strong qualities, Claire has the ones that make her disliked, bothersome, and frustrating. Bold, brave, and impulsive, Claire has always had a desire for adventure and has a strange sense of fear. It goes beyond that: she stops at nothing to get what she wants or to fight. She does what she wants and she will tell you what she thinks. She’s not afraid to speak her mind or let people get what they deserve because of her blunt and sometime vindictive nature. She's sharp and blunt and can come off as, or simply be, rude. People have often pegged her as a bit annoying or frustrating, stemming from her tendency to be a know it all and show off a little, her bluntness, or more. She is so stubborn that it can irritate people, because she simply won't budge from her position. She certainly tends to get a bit annoying, to say the least, but the reasons for that have changed over the years. In the past, she tended to be a show off and know it all, which does still come out now. She has become more professional, but if stressed or angered at work, she will not remain calm and polite.
Claire is a little... scary. She’s intense. Always throwing herself into work, topics, or situations, Claire does it all with intensity and fervor and craziness. She yells, she’s blunt and rude and stubborn, she can be mean and obnoxious and demanding. Getting on her bad side is terrible, which is well-known; her anger and temper is generally feared and people avoid making her blow up. She will start shouting at the Aurors when stressed or provoked, but it is her true anger that is more feared, because of the intensity and strength of it, as well as what she will do and say when angry.
Additionally, she doesn’t get along well with most people. Well, she usually gets along with them, but isn’t close with many people. She either scares them off, or her trust issues have caused her to push them away. She’s always been a bit selective when it comes to her friends. The same thing has happened with dating, and she has sort of given up on that. It isn't a priority with her, and she is too busy with work (and ignoring her feelings).
To talk about Claire, you have to address her best friend as well. Best friends for all thirty eight years of their lives, Claire and Sirius have gone through everything together and are closer than ever after everything they have dealt with. They are each other's support system, sanity, and more. They understand each other as well as they know themselves. They were partners in crime as kids and teenagers, and now they are partners at work and in working with the Order. She truly needs him and probably wouldn’t be able to keep going if she didn’t have him.
Claire Keira Pierce was born on November 22nd, to Audrey Ross and Jonathan Pierce, their first and only child. They were a tiny family; Audrey had no siblings and her parents had passed away before Claire was born, while Jonathan was estranged from his mother and brother, with his father not around for the past fifteen years. Luckily, they had family in their friends. A few months after Claire was born, James Sirius Potter was born to Harry and Ginny Potter. Audrey was best friends with Ginny from school and they eventually worked together, with Audrey working as a writer and later an editor at the Prophet and Ginny as a Quidditch correspondent. Their kids were pretty much together from birth. It went beyond the friendship between the parents - Claire and her parents were essentially taken in by the Potter-Weasley clan, who over the years adopted and incorporated them into the family as if they were truly family. Rather than having a tiny family, Claire had a huge set of relatives now. She grew up with the Potters the most; Sirius was her best friend and partner in crime from the beginning, his siblings were practically hers too, and Teddy, always at the Potter home, was like an older brother to her and they were always close.
She spent her childhood learning to play Quidditch and frequently attending games with her father and Sirius' family. She was a natural at the game, learning to fly at a young age and picking up the skills easily. She began training as a seeker within the family games, often teaming up with Sirius, a keeper. Going to games with passionate fans also quickly made her into a fan, opinionated and understanding of all the rules. Additionally, even as a kid she was reading books upon books and learning all that she could. Her mental encyclopedia of knowledge began at a young age as she read everything she could get her hands on. Sirius's aunt Hermione taught her things from a variety of subjects, Harry would impart wisdom about defense to her and Sirius, and so on. By the time she went to school, she already knew quite a lot from her own studies.
When she and Sirius arrived at school, they were sorted into Ravenclaw and Gryffindor respectively, to nobody's surprise. Despite their different house placements, they remained best friends throughout school; instead, they grew even closer and spent their seven years there joking around, pranking everyone, and playing Quidditch opposite each other. While Sirius had the reputation to go with it, Claire was the star student, unsuspected and loved by the staff, as she was incredibly intelligent and acted like a perfect student. A prefect for two years, she became head girl in her final year, as well as playing for Ravenclaw as seeker throughout her years there and being captain of the team for two years. Graduating at the top of her class and being known as perhaps the smartest student to attend the school in decades, Claire fielded numerous job offers. Instead of becoming a professional player for one of the best teams, she declined the offer, as well as job offers with various departments in the Ministry, St. Mungo's, and more. Instead, she began training to be an Auror with Sirius. They both quickly excelled and soon began their careers as Aurors.
In the twenty years since graduation, Claire has thrown herself into her work, dedicating herself to her job. A workaholic, she is frequently found working at the offices later than everyone else. With Sirius, her partner at work, they have become successful Aurors at the top of the department. She has spent the past two decades years catching dark wizards and criminals, which she dedicates herself to. While Sirius is head of the department, Claire is predicted to go beyond the Auror offices at some point, with people speculating for years that she will become head of the department of Magical Law Enforcement and take even higher positions within the Ministry. She could have been head of the MLE by 35 and Minister of Magic by 40 if she had wanted to, but she wanted to continue her work in the Auror department. As it is, though, she serves as an advisor to the current head of the MLE and to other members of the department, as well as people around the ministry. She also frequently attends meetings with other departments, in addition to attending meetings with Sirius as an unofficial co-head of the department. This has become the norm due to her status within the Ministry, and beyond, as more than just an Auror. Her intelligence, skills, opinions, and experience are well-respected, known, and valued.
Her personal life has been fairly boring, instead spending much of her time outside work dealing with Sirius's problems and helping him through bad times. Otherwise, Claire has gone through a few failed relationships, stemming from her work obsession and trust issues. The main roadblock for her, however, is her continuing feelings for Sirius since they were in school, around sixteen or seventeen years old; she pretends her feelings don't exist, and she and Sirius have never told each other of how they feel. Instead she chooses to focus on work, the Order, Sirius, and her family. Along with her work as an Auror, frequently staying late or bringing her work home with her, Claire spends her extra waking hours, because of severe chronic insomnia, doing several other things that contribute to her status and reputation in the wizarding world, which extends outside the country. For example, Claire continues to invent spells, develop new techniques, and study elements of magic in her free time, like she did in school. Many of these have become well-known, even commonplace, and some are now taught in schools, whether it is a technique for brewing a potion or a new charm. She has written dozens of articles for journalistic and scholarly publications, such as about her new work, the Ministry, or Auror subjects. She has also written several scholarly, academic books on a variety of subjects, from a historical study to an in-depth book about advanced defense spells, her speciality, which is now used in defense classes. Claire's dislike for inactivity, extra time awake from less sleep, and often a need for distraction have fueled all these extra activities beyond work. She is always, always doing something.
A major day that stands out from the blur of work that has been her life since age eighteen or so was the day her mother was killed. When Claire was 30, Audrey Pierce was killed, and Claire has spent the years since obsessing over it as she tries to figure out what happened. Even now, she isn't entirely sure why it happened. Audrey's connection to Claire, who had by then spent more than ten years putting bad people behind bars? Audrey's past involvement with Dumbledore's Army, participation in the Battle of Hogwarts, and continued association with that group of people? Audrey's status as editor in chief of the Prophet, for what was being published? It's the one case Claire hasn't solved, and it haunts her now, years later. It was the first major thing that started her need to fight back, to stop what was coming, before they even really knew something was coming at all. The next was what happened to Sirius’s family. Now it fills her up and she obsesses over it; she has to do this. There’s scars on her body, numerous remains of injuries over the past two decades that remind her of what she had faced already - and there are scars that you can’t see, the remains of terrifying encounters, her mother's death, Sirius's family. The insomnia of her teenage years has never gone away, and now the wide awake nights are often filled with bad memories of her mother’s death, of her father’s current state, of fights, of fear for Sirius and her family and more. Claire is scared, and nobody quite knows that.
